Breeding rare breeds of poultry for the future

Posted by Sierra Jorgensen on May 14, 2011 at 11:36 AM

I didn't hatch many, but it's still so good to have goslings again. I always miss having them, every year. c:
I'm filling early reservations, and won't have enough goslings for new orders. Sorry everyone! I'm ordering buff and grey goslings from Allison Grell, and I should have a bigger breeding program next year AND Buffs. I'm trying to buy a Sportsman Incubator for hatching as well, but that probably won't happen till Fall at least.

Not much else to say! School Finals are killing me!

PS. Check out the new product on the sales page!!

I have a trio and a pair I am selling.

The TRIO is my show breeder stock. They have produced some beautiful birds these past couple years, but I need to make room for my buff program. The trio includes two proven 4 year old girls, and a young 2 year old proven gander. They lay 30+ eggs a year, a rarity in Toulouse. $400.

The PAIR consists of two 1 yr old grey geese. THE MALE IS RECESSIVE FOR BUFF. Check the product page for more info. $200

I've split up my Faverolles and I'm trying out two new roosters. FAVEROLLE TESTING EGGS ARE FREE (you pay for shipping). You must be willing to send photos back to me though, so that I can see what the babies look like.

I have one that is a recessive white (both parents were salmon) and he should produce salmon babies. His type, toes and beard are great. He is being bred to SALMON girls that are dark. (They should produce chicks that are light to medium/ideally colored. ). Fertility is unchecked yet, but I will check before shipping eggs. Eggs can be shipped the 16th-30th.

I also have a SALMON ROOSTER. He is on the small side but is VERY wide and has a great beard, toes, and is nice and dark. His shoulder is burgendy and his hackles and saddle feathers are straw/creme colored. I am breeding him to BLUE SALMON HENS. You should get 50% Blue salmon and 50% normal salmon chicks.

I have a product in the store for them. Check it out!

Thank you!
